Last night, while Alison was trying to get to sleep, the cat got over excited and punched her in the face. Alison had a nosebleed and was understandably quite shocked and surprised.
Crazy cat.
I went out to see the new Harry Potter film with my brother last night. It was fairly good. Not really as good as the last one (where was Gary Oldman?) but still better than the first one. The effects were good, the pacing was pretty good, the creepy bits were very creepy... The plot was good, if slightly cut down from the book. The one thing that sucked was the editing. Dear goodness. Some scenes just barely made sense! Hermione's little strop after Ron ruined her night at the ball was almost incomprehensible, though that may just have been an attempt to convey how insane teenage girls are, in which case I salute the accuracy of the portrayal. Anyway. It was pretty good. Trailers for Narnia and King Kong too, which both look pretty promising.
It was good to see my brother too. I've not seen him in ages. He's shaved his head which is kinda weird. He looks a bit more like me now, except he has a beard and stuff. He's doing well at the moment, though his house is likewise freezing. Rubbish.
I've trawled around my site an found a bit of code which may well have been responsible for the pop-ups, so I've removed it. There shouldn't be any more problems.
My my, it was frosty this morning. Alison is back in work now, so I cycled to work. It was quite bracing, to say the least.
Our heating broke over the weekend, which was fun. Our landlord had to come round and take the boiler to bits. We were most grateful for the two oil filled radiators that Ali's mum had recently bought us. I don't think we'd have coped without them!
Anyway. I wasn't best pleased to get to work and find that the heating was broken here too! Disaster! Still, they had that fixed shortly after lunch, so that's OK.
It seems the pop-up problem has been fixed... At least, I've not seen any this morning. Let me know if you see any more.
Oh yeah... I finished reading The Da Vinci Code the other day. The ending was rubbish. I'd figured it out about a third of the way in, at which point the author covered it up so that he could deus ex machina it later and try to create some exciting surprise ending. I was not impressed. Still, it wasn't bad as far as mystery thrillers go, so it should make a good film when it comes out next year.
A couple of times I've got a pop up while doing stuff at my site. This happened to anyone else? One time I got something about the WWF (animals, not wrestling) and another time it was altogether less work friendly. I apologise to anyone who's had a porn pop-up while looking at my site... that's hardly my line of business.
I'm not sure if my site has been compromised, or if it's the browsers I've been using on my PCs, though I doubt it as it's happened both at work and on my home PC. Hmm.
Anyway. If it's some script kiddie jackass then... well, damn, frankly. Tools.
I've been cycling to work for a couple of months now. My thighs are getting bigger, but my waist is shrinking so my trousers are too big now. Time to get a belt.
I'm not driving cycling to work this week though, as Alison is off work so I'm driving the car to work. She's on antibiotics and they're making her sick. Great.
Our house is cold. I wish we'd been more hesitant about the lack of double glazing.
The new Sugababes single, Ugly, is utterly terrible, which is odd as the last one - Push The Button - which went to number one was actually pretty good as far as pop stuff goes.
Life is random and crazy, yet also a bit boring at present. Mind you, perhaps it only appears boring because I know there's lots coming up... sort of a calm before the storm type thing. We shall see...
I'll post something tomorrow, I promise.
Don't hold your breath though.
When I last went to visit my parents, they entrusted to me a set of bookshelves and a beanbag, to pass on to my brother. All well and good, surely, as he only lives across the city from me.
So, the other day my brother gets in touch asking if we want to go to the cinema. We arrange that we will see The Corpse Bride and plan for Tuesday - yesterday - evening.
Alison and I potter off in the car with the bookshelves and beanbag, and arrive at his house. We ring the doorbell and are first asked if we are trick or treaters... a day late. Strange. We say no, and a girl opens the door. We ask for Michael, and are told that no Michael lives at that house, and indeed the girls moved in back in July and no Michael has lived there since then, nor was there a Michael among the group that lived there previously.
At this point I feel as though I'm in a sitcom, or perhaps on some weird hallucinogenic drugs. I'm in the hallway of someone's house, carrying a set of bookshelves, while my wife expertly wields a beanbag, talking to a girl who insists that my brother does not and has never lived at this house, which I am convinced I have picked him up from twice, all the while being stared at like I'm insane by more girls in the kitchen whose supper I have disturbed.
So, we left, carrying our beanbag and bookshelves behind us.
Later investigation revealed that Michael had moved house 6 weeks ago, but this news had clearly never reached me, and it wouldn't suprise me if people hadn't known he'd lived there - he was hardly around what with work and sleeping all day.
Well, there's a story that's probably not really all that funny. In more amusing news, Chloe the kitten fell in the bath the other day and had to run off and hide under the bed and clean all the water off herself. Stupid cat.
